DOMESTIC POLICIES
Underwriting and Claims Information Requirements

The Information Data Sharing System, introduced by SAIA, emphasises the importance of complete and accurate data to insurance companies and the industry as a whole. Complete and accurate data directly impacts on the level of service we are able to provide to you, our business partners, and to clients. It is with this in mind that we are stipulating certain minimum information requirements for you to comply with when dealing with us regarding your client’s insurance. Please help us to serve you and your clients better by complying with these requirements.

The new minimum information requirements will apply to all domestic policies, both at the application stage for new business proposals as well as at the claim stage, at time of notification.

The following minimum information regarding client and vehicle details will therefore be required before acceptance of any new business or additions to existing policies:

  • forename(s) or initial(s) and surname of the insured and, where applicable, that of the regular driver of any vehicle that will be insured
  • correct address details, both residential and postal, of the insured and the regular drivers
  • identity number of the insured and, where applicable, the regular driver
  • date of birth will be deduced from the identity number, but where this is not available - only in the case of foreign passport holders - the date of birth will be mandatory
  • on any vehicle that is to be insured, the correct Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) as well as the correct registration number will be required. Where the registration number is not available at time of application, this will have to be provided within 14 days. The VIN will, however, be mandatory in all cases

This information will be required when registering a new claim, in addition to information that is specifically relevant to the claim. In most cases such information will be available from the underwriting system but in cases where this information is not available, the claim can unfortunately not be registered.

System changes will be implemented to facilitate the capturing and validation of the required information. These changes will be effective from 1 April 2003, from which date we regret that we will not be able to issue policies or register claims without the required information.

Complying with information requirements will facilitate improved levels of service and faster turnaround times, the benefits of which can be passed on to your clients. We look forward to your co-operation in this regard.

Should you require any further information, please contact our Customer Service Centre on 0860 00 90 90.
